We love our pets, but that doesn't mean they aren't capable of getting themselves into a whole mess of trouble. And by mess, we mean everything that you spent time preparing for Christmas is probably all over the floor by now. It seems that for whatever reason, whether they're trying to help or not, our beloved animals somehow ruin everything. But it's not all bad; there are some amazingly cute photos that you can get out of them! So if you want to see what other people have to struggle with on Christmas, get to scrolling!
Did I Do That
Our pets may be sweet, cuddly, and kind but that doesn't mean they aren't capable of creating chaos. We always wonder what our pets are thinking when they do things that we wouldn't do. It's hard to hate them for what they do but sometimes it feels like they're doing it on purpose. But if we ever see a big mess and our dog looking at us like this, we just have to forgive them.
This one looks like he's saying, "I know what I did was wrong, but it was an accident. I'll give you lots of cuddles in return". That's right you will, troublemaker.
Halp
But if you've ever had a cat, then something like that is probably a common occurrence. At the very least they won't always look like they're sad about what they did. In fact, it almost seems like cats more often than dogs commit these acts of chaos on purpose. But they aren't quite as good about running away from their mistakes as dogs are. Just ask this cat right here:
We are not exactly sure what this cat was trying to accomplish, but the look on this cat's face is priceless. Just make sure you rescue them as quickly as possible.
The Wicked Witch of Christmas
That wouldn't be the first time a cat has gotten crushed under a tree in this list. Just take a look: we've already got another cat in the same predicament. And she looks like she's trying to cosplay as The Wicked Witch of the East from "The Wizard of Oz" with her feet out after the house fell down on her. Except this looks much, much cuter than that did.
But to this, we would say, "This isn't Halloween, kitty! It's Christmas! This is no time to be playing pretend or to be destroying the Christmas decorations". But it will probably happen again.
Not a Care in the World
Some dogs don't care at all. Some dogs just feel that they have a claim to whatever they can see and smell. So when this dog decided that this whole pile of gifts was for him and him alone, he thought that he could get away with tearing into them all. And the look on his face really says "I don't know what you want from me, these are mine".
All we know is this is not going to be the greatest Christmas for anyone here. We just hope they have time to fix everything before the big day is upon them.
Claim Gifts Early
Speaking of having a claim to things, we bet these people weren't expecting their dog to take their words so seriously. When they said to claim your gifts early, they definitely didn't mean to claim them in the sense that a dog claims things for its own. Peeing on the presents was certainly not on the agenda, but it seems that it's a bit too late to stop it now.
Hopefully, that wrapping paper is water-resistant. Otherwise, someone is going to wonder why their new gaming console is all wet and won't turn on (we shudder at the thought).
Please Be Gentle
We know we just said that cats aren't as used to doing the cute thing after screwing things up as dogs are (although some of you might have a different experience) but at least in this picture the cat has tried their darndest to create a stunning display of cuteness. After tearing into every single present and being discovered, she activated her belly-rub mode in hopes of receiving forgiveness.
Well, it works for us and maybe it works for the cat's owners. At the end of the day, all it really needs is a bit more wrapping paper to fix things.
No More Homework or Anything for That Matter
Has anyone's dog ever actually ever eaten their homework? One of our dogs did eat a book that was needed to finish the work, but that's about all we've heard of it. But it looks like this naughty dog has eaten the homework and then some. Just like the cat that proceeded it, the dog has ripped into each and every gift! We don't even know what part of this is gift and what part is other things.
One thing is for sure, this doggo is not getting away with it. As cute as his guilty face is, this is too much damage to fix with some gift wrap.
The Dog Ate Everything
If what you just saw is so totally your dog, then you might want to consider doing what these folks have done with theirs. Since there's no real good way to punish your dog other than giving it a time out, this might be right up your alley. You can hang from it a sign explaining exactly what it did, such as eating all of the components necessary for a perfect Christmas.
It's both a good way to feel a sense of dog parenting accomplishment as well as being a totally cute way to tell off your dog (and you don't have to feel bad about it).
Dog Shaming
In fact, we're going to show you another doggo who got the sign of shame. He may not have gotten all twisted up in the holiday lights as some of the other dogs that you will see soon, but it seems that this dog has just as much of a craving for those tiny little lights as the others do. Why is it that anything on strings needs to be toyed with by our pets??
It definitely deserves the "naughty list". It seems this one may not be finding any treats in their Christmas stocking this year... well, the least you could do is give him 1!
Barking up the Wrong Tree
We're not sure what this dog is looking for in the Christmas tree, but someone might want to tell him that he's barking up the wrong tree (was that joke a bit too cheesy?). We really want to know what this dog is trying to do here. We haven't even seen our own dogs try this hard to get up a tree. Even the girl in the photo is shocked by what she's seeing.
Maybe he thought he saw a stray cat sitting upon the branches. As highly unlikely as that is, though, dogs are pretty unpredictable and this is a believable excuse.
Tasty
Speaking of cats up in a tree, we think we may have found the cat that that dog was looking for. Here it is trying to eat some candy canes out of the tree. We just hope that it isn't a real candy cane or this cat might just end up with a cavity. Strangely enough, we were pretty sure that cats don't typically go for sweets that are sitting out.
Then again, cats do love things that are hanging from a string. We don't blame it for wanting to get its paws on it. We may have even eaten a cane out of a tree once...
This Doesn't Belong There
Cats aren't just in love with things hanging from a string. They just love to test their skills and reach for whatever is out of the way from them. That includes whatever this family decided to hang on the top of their Christmas tree. After all, it's lacy and rippable, so it makes sense that she'd want to go and grab it. And probably tear the tree down along with it.
Thinking about it, do you think it's possible that the cat put that there? Maybe it was already holding it and found the top of the tree to keep it safe.
Just a Taste
We've already seen one cat who just loves to eat the candy canes out of the tree, and now we have this. If you thought the candy cane cat and the dog who ate Christmas were bad, what do you think of this? It's not exactly the worst thing a beloved pet has done with the decorations, but it's probably the weirdest. This cat has seemed to take a liking to the tree itself.
We don't exactly recommend it. Those trees can be pretty spiky. But at least the cat isn't eating all of the presents. Ah, who are we kidding? Those'll be gone by the morning.
I Spy
At first glance, it may not look like there's anything wrong with this picture. But what if we told you that the person who took this photo is a cat owner? Does that make it any more clear as to what you should be looking for? That's right! There's a cat hanging on for dear life in this picture. But you might have just thought it was another ornament in the tree.
That's one of the things you have to be careful of on Christmas. Cats just love to climb up into trees, but they aren't very good at getting out of them...
Tangled
Sometimes the chaos comes before everything is finished. While setting up decorations, your home is probably at most at risk for a dog invasion. There are lots of ornaments and strings for your dogs to get their hands on, so it might be a bit of a tough job trying to keep them out of harm's reach. But if you're intent on letting your dogs help you out, they might end up like this:
It seems the dogs wrapped up in Christmas lights may have ruined everyone's chance to help out again next year. At least, that's the vibe we're getting from their faces.
Extra Tangled
It seems that there are plenty of dogs out there who just want to help put up the Christmas decorations. Who would have thought that dogs could enjoy it so much? It's just too bad that something about the holiday lights seems to confuse the heck out of doggos because they always seem to get themselves wound up in the whole thing. We don't know what it is about the lights, but the pics are always great.
He kind of looks like he could be one of Santa's reindeer. Although, he's going to need a bit more paws-on experience so he doesn't end up flying through the sky like this.
Topping the Tree
But it's not just the dogs that are helping out. Some people like to get their cats in on the action. They're much better at climbing things anyway, although, as we've seen already, that's not always such a good thing. In fact, this picture might not be about the cat helping out at all. This may, in fact, be the cat climbing into the tree to steal the sparkly tree-topper.
It's amazing to see the great lengths that cats go through to get what they want. Someone needs to tell them that they don't have to be quite so destructive to do it.
A New Nest
Ahh, so this must be what that last cat was trying to achieve. The top of the tree does make an excellent perch. After all, lots of birds seem to think this is cool, so why not a cat? Well, as it so happens, this cat already has a bed ad a climbing toy, so the tree does not need to become its new nest. And besides, don't cats eat birds?
Actually, that may just be why the cat is up here in the first place. Maybe it's just waiting for its prey to come to it. And to trick your enemy, you sometimes have to become your enemy.
It Hasn't Even Been a Day
Getting gifts for the whole family is one of the best parts of Christmas. Receiving gifts is one thing, but being able to give a gift just feels so good, too. So not only did this family get their kids some gifts, but they also decided that their cute little pupper deserves a gift too. But what do you think happened that very same day? Well, just take a look for yourself:
That's right. He already chewed through the whole thing before Christmas could even end. Just look at how sad he is! It may have ruined his Christmas, but we're sure he'll get a replacement.
Just Why
That's not the only dog that chewed through their toy until the fluff came out of it. But in this case, the unfortunate bit is that it wasn't actually a toy that this dog chewed through. Instead, he decided that the pillow would be this day's victim. What do you think happened when the owners got home? They took a quick snap of this dog with the most satisfied look they've ever seen.
Hopefully, they were already planning on getting a new one because there's no saving this one. We just hope that this was the only pillow he went through this time.
Christmas Town Kitty
The top of a tree isn't the only place that cats like to nest. They are also very fond of pretty much anything that you hold precious and dear. So when this cat-owner built themselves a Christmas town, their cat decided that it would be the perfect opportunity to find itself a new place to take a cat nap. We're not sure how the people of the town feel about it, though.
It does look admittedly pretty cozy. Maybe a giant cat in the middle of your ski lodge wouldn't be the worst thing after all. As long as there's nothing to break.
Nativity Cat
And where there are cats in Christmas towns, there are also cats in other Christmas-themed set pieces. This cat decided to take a look at a Nativity scene that its owner created. And by "take a look", we probably mean something more along the lines of completely destroyed. It hasn't quite gotten to that point yet, but we're sure if you leave it alone for a few minutes you won't (or will) be disappointed.
Yes, if you've got something like this, it would probably be best to seal it up in a glass display case. Cats will stop at nothing to ruin your things.
Whodunnit
We love seeing the different ways that animals react to the things that they've done that they know will get them into trouble. Will they let you pet their bellies? Will they give you those puppy dog eyes that dogs are so well known for and that even cats have been known to use? Maybe they'll be like these cats and act all astonished by the sudden introduction of damage to the Christmas tree.
"Ohhh noooo, what happened here...?" is what we can hear them saying. They may not act like it, but there's really only one thing that could have done something like this...
Team Meeting
We just saw what it looks like when a pair of cats ignore the problems they have just caused, but how do you think they planned out their idea? Well, luckily for us, someone caught their cats in the act much earlier and were able to snap a pretty telling picture of how cats decide to hide their fault. Too bad the culprit is always a pretty obvious one indeed.
They look like they're just coming to realize the gravity of their mistake: it turns out gravity is real and it knocked down the tree... no fish treats this week.
He's Got Hops
Like we said before, cats love things that are hanging on strings. If you have a Christmas tree and a cat, you're all but guaranteed to have one or all of the ornaments taken down at some point. If there is nothing to stop your cat from getting whatever it is they see hanging around, then it's probably already as good as gone. Good luck trying to keep your tree safe.
If this were us, we'd probably not be trying to take a picture, but rather get the cat out of the living room. We're so sick of this every year!
Shhh
Good luck trying to find your white cat amongst all of the silver and white Christmas ornaments. You already know that she's hiding in there somewhere, but it may be hard to spot her until she starts moving around. We wouldn't be surprised if this cat was sleeping in here for a while before the owner found them here. We think our favorite part of Christmas is playing "Find the Cat".
It is really not hard to figure out. You just have to find the trail of destroyed gifts leading back up into the tree that they were hidden underneath of.
Where's the Cat
Though the game may not be so easy when you have a younger cat. Or a Christmas tree full of lights and ornaments that block out the view of your cat. But if you look hard enough, you might just see them somewhere in the tree. After all of these photos, it is the most likely place for them to end up. Why don't you try finding it this time?
Oh, there he is! He looks like he needs some help getting out of there. The funny thing is, cats are really good at finding there way in but don't realize they can just leave the same way.
Asleep in the Tree
If you leave them long enough, though, they may just try to find their own way out. And that might involve letting your cat claw their way through your Christmas tree. Then again, that would only be necessary if cats weren't prone to taking a literal cat nap wherever they might happen to be. And for this cat, that happens to be part way through an escape attempt out of the tree.
It's honestly really cute how they're able to find themselves a place to relax just about anywhere. And being inside a tree and a nice warm home is exactly the atmosphere they're looking for.
A Real Christmas Angel
After so many photos of cats in a tree, we're not at all surprised by this one. But the most interesting thing about this one as compared to all of the others is that this cat is actually somehow resting at the top of the tree. The owner called her their "little angel". Clearly she liked this name so much that she decided to be the angel at the top of this year's Christmas tree.
We don't know how long she's planning on staying up there, but we can bet that it wouldn't be worth putting the Christmas lights back in place. She'll just tear them down again.
Too Cute to Handle
Who can forget their dog's first Christmas? These are the days where your dog has no sense of right and wrong and is probably the most likely to destroy the things around the house. As annoying as you might think it is, it definitely makes for some of the best pictures. Just look at how cute this little puppy is as he smiles in ignorance of what he just did:
You can't be mad at this little face! He'll understand one day not to do these sorts of things. As for now, we're just going to stare at this perfect pup.
Wrap Him up Too
Well, maybe they won't figure it out when they get older, but that doesn't mean that you can't still get a good picture out of it! This doggo seems to have found the wrapping paper for the gifts. After tearing it all up and being caught red-handed, there was only one thing left for it to try: being super photogenic. He looks like he is ready to wrap himself up!
"This Christmas, I'm going to be the present," he says, hoping to get a treat. And even though he was already the Christmas gift when he was a pup, you decide to give him a treat anyway... and buy some new wrap.
Five Whole "Gifts"
Sometimes when a dog ruins your (Christmas) day, they do it because they truly believe they were being helpful. On this holy day where everyone gets a ton of presents, these dogs just wanted to join in on the festivities and bring their own gifts. But we're not exactly sure how much everyone is going to like their presents. Even if they did leave 5 whole gifts for the family to find.
As cute as this might be, having to clean up after your dogs in 5 separate rooms in one day is a bit excessive. Maybe a doggy door is in order.
A Couples' Photo
These two just wanted to take a nice picture to remember their Christmas this year. It was supposed to be a couples' photo, but it seems that one member of the family misunderstood that part. Although they may have come with their "significant other", they definitely weren't supposed to get down and dirty with it for the photo. But it seems they were a bit too late to stop it.
Hey, it's kind of cute! Though there isn't really a good way to crop out the dog. Hopefully they were ready for something like this and took a few photos.
Happy Holidays
Whether or not your dogs and cats destroy Christmas, you shouldn't hold it against them. Sure, many of them seem to do it on purpose, but you know that it has to come from a place of love. So you should make sure to clean up after them and hope that it won't happen again. Just be sure that when you leave Santa's cookies out at night that they can't get to them.
Luckily, it seems these treats were specifically intended for the pets this time around. Nobody loves waking up to see a shattered plate and no cookies to be found, but this is definitely something we could see every day.
Bonus Bird
We've got a bonus one here for you guys! This one isn't a cat or a dog, but someone's pet parakeet. It's not nearly as effective at destroying things as some of the other pets we've seen on this list, but it sure looks like it has the same intentions. It seems like it's trying to tear down this one ornament. Maybe it thinks it's a low-hanging fruit from a tree.
We think it's actually pretty cute. We wouldn't exactly go as far as to say you shouldn't stop it, but a picture was definitely a good call on this one.
