Throughout the last two years, we as people have surely spent a lot more time thinking about some things we enjoy and those that we don't. But, whether it's to keep the peace or just to make others happy, we all have that one thing we pretend to enjoy, but actually hate. The best part about this is that everyone's things are always different and it makes one think, "do I truly enjoy them too?". Check out these popular things that everyone somewhat pretends to enjoy. We are sure you would not have thought about some of them until now.
Religion
This topic can usually stir up some potent drama, and let's be real, it is definitely something people can pretend to enjoy, just not necessarily everyone though. We have seen the classic teen who goes to Christian camp just to meet cute innocent girls, there is an example right there. But maybe this “pretending to enjoy religion” has a completely different meaning here that maybe we just would not understand.
In an overall sense though, perhaps for someone who is not religious, it would be easier for them to say that those who are are just pretending to enjoy it?
Mumble Rap
If you, like us, are not sure what “Mumble Rap” is about, we will explain it to you. Mumble Rap seems to be the latest art form of rapping, or more like the art of not rapping where there is less rhyming and more mumbling. Although the beat may be quite catchy and get people enticed to listen to it, no one really enjoys the annoyance that comes with mumbling.
People who listen to Mumble Rap may just do so after a long day with a beer to take the edge off without thinking too much into it, but they definitely can’t enjoy it.
Children's "Art"
There is nothing cuter than a child bringing you a picture of a dinosaur riding a train in the snowy mountains, that basically just looks like the crayon box fell out on a white page inside the trunk of a race car. But for the sake of children and their sanity, we have to pretend to enjoy them in all their glory while they sit on the fridge door for months.
Unless, if you are lucky and your kid is the next rising Picasso and their art is pretty good, then we are sure you will actually enjoy having children's art around.
Small Talk
Small talk is most definitely more tiring than deep meaningful conversations because the amount of energy it takes to come up with things to talk about can exhaust you beyond belief. But the thing is, we all for sure pretend to enjoy small talk and the good old chit-chat, until you stop talking and get to sigh out the relief of the tiring situation you were in, finally being over.
Having to partake in small talk is purely based on talking to someone because you have to, not because you want to, and there is nothing at all enjoyable about that.
Hard Liquor Taste
It's a brave step to take down a little shot glass of hard liquor, and then still enjoy it, but at the moment we put on a brave face like it's the best thing we've tasted when we know it ain't. Pretending to enjoy hard liquor gets easier though with the more we drink. The first one never goes down easily, but once that's done, it's game over for us.
Hard liquor with mixes is great and there is no pretending needed when taking it in. That only comes when the mixes get taken out and we harden up and drink.
Family Vacations
It’s all fun and games until there is a scheduled family fight, mom keeps nagging you to do things or your little brother wants to play hide and seek all the time. Yes, going on holiday with the family is a thing we have all pretended to enjoy. It should be something we just enjoy, and sometimes it is, but too many days in one place with them is asking for trouble.
In today’s world, people are going to love and hate regardless of them being gay or just a terrible person (gay or straight). What did the gays ever do to us?
Celebrity Plastic Surgery
The only thing we love about celebrities who get bad surgery is the entertainment of how bad it looks and the confusion around how they let that happen. There is no way people really enjoy this kind of stuff. Blown up lips and skew eyebrows, it's for sure fun to look at or try to figure out what went wrong and have a laugh when the celebrities say they are happy with it.
But there is absolutely no way this brings real joy to people's lives. We all enjoy it not for what it is, but for what it brings to the table.
If you feel this one does not relate to you, think about this; when you spend hours on Facebook looking at the same types of stories, news articles, or life happenings and then log out and assess your life, are you really enjoying it? Facebook is great to share and find interesting things, but at the end of the day, why do we actually enjoy it? Do we actually enjoy it?
But there is absolutely no way this brings real joy to people's lives. We all enjoy it not for what it is, but for what it brings to the table.
Golf
Of all the sports to watch on TV, golf has to be one of the most boring ones. It's probably more like background noise with an excuse to get men out of something they do not want to do. It just seems impossible that someone would thoroughly enjoy watching golfers hit a ball, walk, and hit a ball again. It's a scam, people who watch golf on TV are scamming us.
Maybe we should be taking note here though, as a way to get out of doing things. Maybe watching golf on TV should be the new thing you pretend to enjoy, instead of the gays?
Corporate Life
Do people who wear expensive suits, work overtime and use confusing jargon in their daily lives really enjoy it, or are they just pretending? There is no way that people can honestly say that brings them joy unless they don't have much family life outside of that. Working in corporate is a tiresome job to do and although it looks fun in movies, they probably do make tons of money too.
But as the saying goes, money can’t buy you happiness, but it can buy you things that make you happy. And working in a corporation should give you lots of money, so maybe they’re onto something.
Pregnancy
Could it even be possible to really enjoy pregnancy when you've got all the cons that come with it? Like sure, it is beautiful and you're creating a whole human inside of you, but the weight gain, gas, accidentally peeing sometimes, stretch marks, morning sickness, and weird tuna and peanut butter cravings can honestly not be enjoyable. However, we think this is the most valid thing to pretend to enjoy.
It would be weird if women were honest and said they were not enjoying being pregnant because the backlash from others would be unbearable. We think we should let this one slide.
Nickelback
The hate for Nickelback is kind of on the same level as the hate for coriander some people have. However, in this situation, it is more the case of people pretending to not enjoy Nickelback, rather than pretending to enjoy them. This purely comes from people not wanting to be caught out for actually liking them. They just want to fit in with the majority, which in this case seems to be the haters.
But behind closed doors, they lie on the floor holding a picture frame blaring out “look at this photograph, every time I do it makes me laugh”. It’s okay Nickelback lovers, we won’t tell anyone.
Hustle Culture
You know those people who work and work and work until work becomes their lifestyle, that’s hustle culture, and there is no way someone can honestly enjoy that. Unless you’re a person trying to make ends meet by working your butt off every day, then that’s okay. But when you make more than enough money to live and still make working and working overtime your top priority, it can’t be fun.
Along with pretending to enjoy the hustle culture comes the other people or staff who are dragged into it too. They definitely don’t enjoy it, let alone have to pretend to.
One Like One Prayer
It still baffles us how people honestly believe that Jesus will answer your prayers because you liked Susan's post on Facebook. And the scary thing is that people still continue to do it, but do they honestly enjoy it? We think not. Getting likes and shares with the option to give something back in return should be against Facebook's rules, it too is a scam and needs to be stopped.
If this were true though and we’re sure there are people out there who believe it to be, imagine how a person will fit in all that praying and sharing on a 685 liked post?
Outrage
For anyone who genuinely enjoys watching those videos containing "pretend outrage", please stop. These almost noticeably scripted and rehearsed outrage videos, which are meant to seem like they just "happened naturally" are probably part of some of the worst content which could be found on social media today. The things that people will do for likes are completely insane and it is hard to believe anyone would really enjoy them.
The only thing enjoyable about them is the fact that they are so badly done, and that provides the slightest amount of entertainment. Otherwise, you’re all just pretending to enjoy them.
Flat Earth
There are a large number of people who believe that the earth is flat. This conspiracy has caused a lot of debates, arguments, and disbelief for its completely unpopular opinion. However, there is really no way that people who believe the earth is flat can enjoy continuously trying to prove their point is correct. Is it fun for them to try to prove a different theory to the one which has scientifically been proven?
Perhaps the flat earth theory is just to keep trolls and Karen’s entertained and they may enjoy the drama they can cause around the theory. But besides that, do people actually enjoy the theory?
Being Drunk
Let's all be honest here, getting wasted is really fun at the moment, but deep down inside we all know that some negative effects come with it, and at some point, we do get to a stage where we start pretending to enjoy it. When we start doing embarrassing things or want to fight with someone, the fun stops, and getting wasted seems like a bad idea. Well, not right away.
Let us not forget the dreaded feeling we all know we will have the next morning. The violent hangover, the forgetfulness, and the unforgivable apologies we will need to make.
Bars
There is nothing worse than going to a bar or club with some friends and not being able to hear them speak or even hear yourself think. But yet, we all still continue to go back and do it again. Is it enjoyable? No. But it does not stop people from being in those situations again, complaining about the noise and heading home with a hoarse throat from screaming conversations.
Maybe there are some people who enjoy loud bars. But for the rest of us, we will just continue to walk into noisy venues and pretend we actually enjoy the loud environment.
Influencers
We think the reason influencers have landed on this list is mainly because they reach certain people who wish they had the kind of life an influencer lives. We love to watch their content but deep down inside, we are not actually enjoying it that much. Perhaps it is some jealousy or annoyance of seeing every inkling of their life displayed online, but very few people out there actually enjoy it.
Influencers do however make their impact by convincing us to buy the products they are sponsors for, but again, being caught out into buying something maybe you didn’t need is also not enjoyable.
Silly Shows
Shows which are like the masked singer may entice people, as you may think it is a more entertaining and advanced version of idols, but when you put the whole show into perspective, you may have a different feel. Do you really enjoy it or are you just unaware of the fact that you spend most of your time watching it, waiting and guessing who the actual singer might be?
People are so drawn into shows like this purely for the mystery, and before you know the episode is over and you only got the satisfaction of knowing who the masked person was.
Work From...
Since Coronavirus lockdown restrictions hit, working from home seems like the absolute new norm. Until we got those bosses who wanted you back. This situation of being at home or at the office could go both ways though. Some people want to be back at the office because they get away from their kids, their normal home life, and maybe things like washing the dishes. But for others, it may be a different case.
Pretending to enjoy being at the office is not an unusual case. Some do it because they have to, but if the choice was theirs, they would jump back into the home work life ASAP.
Policies
Nobody enjoys having to fork out tons of cash for their healthcare policies because although it helps when something happens, for most people, they never really end up using it at all. Even more so, the policies never seem to match your exact needs, it's not a one size fits all situation, more like one size fits policyholder's pockets. It's another "love to have but can't enjoy" kind of situation.
In order to be enjoying the healthcare policies, one must be making some really great use of them. But the rest of those who don’t will continue to grit their teeth and bear it.
Roasts
Getting roasted always starts off all fun and hilarious, until someone says something that hits the wrong nerve and it goes downhill from there. Getting your friends to roast you on Roast/me could be a fun little activity to do, as long as everyone stays in between the lines that they need to stay in. But sometimes that’s not the case and getting roasted doesn’t seem like such a good idea anymore.
What people tend to forget is that enjoying something at the expense of emotions is not actually that enjoyable. So, maybe just stick to light banter around a barbecue grill.
Bad Juju
The amount of bad luck we should have from not sharing posts that say so is endless. Since when did sharing something on social media mean you would have good luck and not sharing it will give you bad juju? We don’t even think this is something one can pretend to like, because so many people genuinely don’t. But for the small group who believe it has superpowers, are you guys pretending to believe?
The only way one could possibly enjoy sharing just not to get bad luck is if they believe in the law of attraction. Do as much as possible to bring good energy in.
Corporate Parties
End-of-year staff parties are always such a tricky thing to try and enjoy. You have the festivities atmosphere, but you need to try and behave because well, it's your bosses and colleagues you're with. With alcohol flowing and good vibes, behaving always has to be on the tip of your mind and how much fun can you really have if you are always watching your limits to not cross any boundaries.
For the lucky few who have great relationships with their employers and can have a proper party, good on you. For the rest of you, keep pretending you enjoy it.
Early Workout
We know that the fitness fanatics will fight this one, but is waking up early to work out really enjoyable, or is it just more convenient than anything else? It's bad enough to have to wake up early on the best of days, but to add a workout to that as well cannot be something people genuinely enjoy doing or choose to do. Maybe those who don't enjoy it are missing something?
Yet, we all know that after a workout we feel refreshed and great, but why do we need to do it first thing in the morning? Is there a scientific side to this?
Sunday Church
There is a fine line with this topic of pretending to enjoy church on a Sunday because we know for sure some people love it, like really like it, but there are people who just say they do when it's easy to see that they really don't. We think the argument here may be around what specific church it is. If it's one of those happy, singing, and clapping churches, sure, it could be fun.
The people who pretend to enjoy it most likely attend the older style churches, with very strict ways and processions. Repetitiveness can get a bit boring, and that's when people pretend.
Netflix Shows
People love fitting into society and being part of something that everyone can relate to. Do we all really enjoy watching the popular Netflix shows or are we just watching them so we don’t feel left out when everyone is talking about them? Sometimes the shows can be really good, but not everyone enjoys watching the same shows, so not everyone can really mean it when they say they enjoyed it.
When the next big Netflix show comes out, people are in discussions about it on social media. We watch them just to see what it’s about, but it’s not something we would watch for enjoyment.
Fondant
The only thing cake fondant is great for is making cakes look pretty and adding beautifully made toppers to wow guests with. We don’t know anyone who would willingly enjoy eating cake fondant, as most people land up taking it off the cake anyways. Fondant has such a peculiar texture and taste and well deserves us pretending to enjoy it. It’s nice to look at and nice to hold, but that’s about it.
If anyone out there really does enjoy cake fondant, we for sure know that the majority of people who do not like it outweighs the amount of those who do.
People
Pretending to like other people is something we all do, don’t try to deny it. And by other people, we mean people who are not part of the circle of your people. There is a thing about meeting new people and having to be polite and make small talk, and as we’ve already discussed if we have to make small talk, we can't be enjoying the company we are in.
Because we are all mostly good people we need to pretend to enjoy others rather than blatantly show that we don’t. We just like to be around those we know and keep it that way.
Christmas Cake
The mere thought of eating Christmas cake makes us want to gag. We can downright say we do not enjoy it and we’re sure a lot of people would agree with us. So, those who do say they enjoy it, are you being honest? Or are you just pretending, to keep up the Christmas spirit and not offend grandma by not eating a cake she spent 3 months tending to?
People who like Christmas cake seem to be far and few between, but they are out there. Whether they are pretending to like it or not though, we’ll never know.
Is Twitter really available for enjoyment or are people just on there for a select amount of news and the occasional drama? Besides pretending to enjoy the platform, what is there about it to actually enjoy? We think that many may have thought it was a fad, but Twitter has managed to stay. It's become more of a news streaming and celebrity life watching app than something we can enjoy.
As with most trends, people make use of it because others do so too. But whether it brings real enjoyment to people (besides the drama we can track from the sidelines), we’re not too sure.
Kids
It is not often that people can enjoy other people's kids, with the way that parents bring up their kids differently, there will always be an unpopular opinion. In an overall sense we think other people's kids could quite likely be enjoyable, but not when you are on a flight with a kid kicking the back of your chair, or one is throwing a tantrum in the supermarket on a Sunday afternoon.
For the sake of societal norms though, it wouldn’t be great to openly tell someone you don’t like their kid. So to prevent angry parents, we all continue to pretend that they’re all great!
Kombucha
People who drink Kombucha can not really enjoy the taste of it. We know there are people out there who have a pallet for certain delicate tastes, but fermentation surely can not be one of them. Drinking Kombucha is really healthy for you and maybe people enjoy the health benefits around Kombucha, but if you are drinking it and you say you enjoy drinking it, we know you are pretending.
When anything which tastes as pungent as Kombucha, people must be telling themselves that they enjoy it to get it down. Luckily there are alternatives for those who don’t want to pretend.
