Out of all the people in the world, you would think that celebrities would be the ones immune to criticism. At least, when it comes to their appearance that is. However, celebrities, like us, are just regular people who shot up (or sometimes grew up) into stardom. Therefore, they are just as likely to have insecurities as we are. You may not think about it, but some of your favorite celebrities, like Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, or Addison Rae all have their own weaknesses to contend with. If you want to find out the surprising things that celebrities don't like about themselves, continue reading now!
Bradley Cooper
For someone like Bradley Cooper, you wouldn't think good looks would be anything to worry about. After all, he is quite a handsome man and there aren't many who could deny that he is good-looking in any way. Well, apparently he doesn't exactly feel the same way. Because of being mistaken as the wrong gender when he was a kid, he doesn't exactly see himself a the stunning man he is today.
"I never lived the life of 'Oh, you're so good-looking.' People thought I was a girl when I was little, because I looked like a girl - maybe because my mother would keep my hair really long in a bowl cut, he said.
Alexander Skarsgård
But he's not the only one who feels uncomfortable in his own skin. Alexander Skarsgård also has those days. In fact, he specifically once said, "I'm insecure, like most people. I have days where I feel like the ugliest person on the planet". And this is coming from the guy who played in "True Blood" and was literally a sexy version of Tarzan in "The Legend of Tarzan" from 2016.
This just goes to show that even people who are objectively considered attractive can find themselves feeling pretty low about their looks. But it also means that you might be much more attractive than you realize.
Kylie Jenner
Kylie Jenner may be one of the hottest celebrities out there, but that doesn't mean that she's completely immune to feeling some type of way with her body. She personally didn't like the share and size of her lips, so she decided to do something about it. She actually confirmed that she had dabbled in lip fillers, but she says that she did this to get over a lifetime fixation for bigger lips.
On the one hand, that does make a little sense. Get the bigger lips you've been wanting and you'll stop wanting bigger lips. At least, until they wear off in a year or so.
Khloé Kardashian
While Kylie Jenner may have had a problem with her lips being too small, Khloé Kardashian actually had a different thing going on for her. In fact, it was pretty much the exact opposite problem. Regarding getting lip fillers injected in herself, she said, "It did not work for me. I looked crazy, and I still think the effects are in there—I went to have it all dissolved like three times."
The problem with body modifications is that you should really only do it if you know it's what's best for you. For some, it works, but for others, the pressure of trying to be "more beautiful" pushes them to make a mistake.
Kim Kardashian
But Khloé isn't the only one a little insecure about herself. Her sister Kim also had something that she felt was necessary to deal with: her hair. "If you Google 2008 and 2007, I had the craziest, hairiest hairline, so I did laser it," she said. "Everyone would just Photoshop it every time I did a photoshoot [anyway]. I didn't really change the shape, I just got rid of all the baby hairs".
Interesting that the only thing she didn't like about herself was something you can't really see from afar, but now that she's had laser done, she's definitely got some crisp edges.
Kate Moss
Sometimes people can be a bit self-conscious about things that may not necessarily be true, but we're only human, so there isn't much we can do about that. For Kate Moss, she feels like her legs are a bit of a no-go and she'll try to avoid wearing mid-length skirts in order to avoid drawing attention to them. "No rules, apart from heels, and I never do mid-calf. I've got bow legs. I can't," she said.
We have seen her sometimes wearing these types of skirts, though, and we have to say that she doesn't look all that bow-legged. But we think she should do whatever makes her comfortable.
Kristen Stewart
Kristen Stewart doesn't really have all that much to complain about, does she? Well, according to her, there may be something that she's paying attention to that we haven't really noticed. ""I'm uncomfortable about the size of my ears and I'm sort of lanky," she once said. While we do agree that her ears are a bit bigger than the average person, we actually think it kind of balances out her smaller face.
And regarding that lanky thing? Well, that's something she can fix, truth be told. A couple of visits to the gym and a proper diet can do wonders for a body needing a bit more meat on the bones.
Beyoncé
Now this one may shock you completely. Who thought that Beyoncé, one of the most beautiful and perfect people in the celebrity atmosphere, could actually have something that she's insecure about? Well, similar to Kristen Stewart, Beyoncé doesn't like the look of her ears. "I wear big earrings because I don’t like my ears," says the singer. Well, that would be one way to cover them up, we guess.
It's not like her ears are a bit oversized, and we haven't seen an problems with them. That being said, everyone has their own insecurities. And that's not the only thing she's insecure about.
Beyoncé Continued
It turns out there are a few other things that she doesn't quite like about herself. She apparently also dislikes her feet. "After all the years dancing, they’re a little beat up," she confessed. But the thing is that that's a pretty normal thing to happen. Sometimes you need to make sacrifices, and being a good dancer and dancing for years have taken it's toll on the natural shape of them.
But unless you have a thing for feet, that's not so much of an issue. But maybe her other worries are: she apparently also get a runny nose and very sweaty whenever she performs.
Olivia Wilde
Before Olivia Wilde began dating Jason Sudeikis, she seemed to have a bit of a negative feeling towards her own good looks. Despite being a beautiful woman, she said, "I felt like fresh meat at the market ... I thought, I'm not beautiful enough or his type." But she really has to give herself some credit because he did eventually end up asking her out and they began dating.
And they did end up dating for a long time. Specifically, they dated from 2011 to 2013 when they got engaged, and split up in 2020. That definitely says something.
Chrissy Teigen
Being a mother is one of the best things for some people. The miracle of childbirth is the greatest thing we as humans have, but it can still take its toll on those women that do choose to have a child. Aside from the obvious boost of hormones that can be completely overwhelming, women can become quite a bit self-conscious about there bodies post-birth (although that might be comepletely on men and our entire culture's beauty standards being over the top).
Still, there's nothing to be ashamed about. But Chrissy Teigen says, "I think I'm fine in clothes. But am I comfortable naked or in a bikini? Not exactly yet." And that's okay, too. Just take your time and the world will be here rooting for you whenever you're ready.
Blake Lively
Blake lively also felt a lot of pressure after having a baby. And she seems to know exactly what we were saying before. She said, "That's a shame because there shouldn't be that negative 'ugh' after someone has a baby. Your body is so beautiful. You couldn't walk a Victoria's Secret runway but it's beautiful in a completely different and incredible way and I do wish I had the bravery to go out there and represent women as they actually look."
Honestly, we're not sure if a woman wouldn't be able to walk a Victoria's Secret runway. Maybe it's because they have such high standards for that. But personally, we think women are always beautiful enough, pregnant or not.
Jessica Alba
For Jessica Alba, it seems that there's a lot to her body that she doesn't appreciate. In an interview with "Women's Health", she said, "Let's face it, I don't have the body of a 14-year-old anymore, I think the more we try not to have that unrealistic ideal, the happier we'll be." She continued saying "'I have cellulite and stretch marks - and I have a muffin top!"
Still, that hasn't stopped her from making a mark. And let's face it: she still drop-dead gorgeous! How could she be so self-conscious? As it turns out, these are not her only concerns.
Jessica Alba Continued
Jessica Alba was also a bit self-consious when it came to her legs. She says, I was a lot more critical of my body when it was probably pretty awesome. Now I'm a lot more confident in my skin—because who cares? At the end of the day, it's so much time spent on something that really doesn't matter that much". We couldn't have said that any better ourselves.
Sometimes it doesn't do any good to be critical of oneself. You shouldn't have to worry about what others think. As long as you're comfortable in your own skin, that's what really matters.
Chris Pratt
Chris Pratt is an interesting addition to this list because he has pretty much been everything from completely ripped to a bit chubby and there are people who publically praise every version of him until now. Despite that, he has had his own struggles with his body and how he perceives it. "I'm sure I can't relate to what females go through in Hollywood. I'm sure I can't," he began explaining.
"But, I do know what it feels like to eat emotionally, and… to be sad and make yourself happy with food And then to be almost immediately sad again and now ashamed and then to try to hide those feelings with more food. I know what that's like. It's a vicious cycle and it's a very real thing".
Rihanna
We have yet another beautiful celebrity in our midst who's trying to come to terms with the way her body looks. While Rihanna may seem perfect in mind and soul, there is something that concerns her a bit. And perhaps it's something we all struggle to love about ourselves: the shape of our behinds. "I do pick on my body. It's a thing that women do. We walk in front of the mirror and we look at our butt," she said in an interview with E!
"Is it getting bigger today? Ew. It's still flat." This is probably something a lot of us wish we could change about ourselves. Still, it doesn't help to worry. Let's start with 30 squats.
Miley Cyrus
This is a really interesting case, as Miley Cyrus has quite literally had to pretend to be someone she isn't for a good portion of her life. "I was made to look like someone that I wasn't," she said regarding her role as Hannah Montana. "Which probably caused some body dysmorphia because I had been made pretty every day for so long, and then when I wasn't on that show, it was like, 'Who the f*** am I?'"
That's something that not many people have to worry about, but it can be all the more problematic. Miley didn't have a chance to not be Hannah Montana for a long time and it might take just as long to get past that.
Victoria Beckham
Victoria Beckham pretty much addressed all her insecurities in an interview with Vogue. During the interview, she said to her younger 18-year-old self, "I know you are struggling right now. You are not the prettiest, or the thinnest, or the best at dancing at the Laine Theatre Arts college. You have never properly fitted in, although you are sharing your Surrey school digs with really nice girls."
"You have bad acne. You think the principal has put you at the back of the end-of-year show (in a humiliatingly bright purple Lycra leotard) because you are too plump to go at the front." Yet through all the struggles, she came through a beautiful and thoughtful woman.
Kendall Jenner
What you may not necessarily think about are the struggles that some people have with being skinny. It's a lot less obvious because skinny is supposed to be the idea, but there are people out there that are uncomfortable due to their extreme level of fitness, and Kendall Jenner is one of those people struggling with it. "I'm trying to gain weight but my body won't let it happen," she said.
"What people don't understand is that calling someone too skinny is the same as calling someone too fat, it's not a nice feeling." We agree with you there. It's not easy being too much or too little of anything.
Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga may seem like the ultimate pop star now without a care in the world, but she, too, struggled with a lot of insecurities. She remembers that in high school she wanted to be like Boy George and that it made her feel like a freak and an outcast. "I didn’t fit in in high school, and I felt like a freak," she said. This is really surprising as she is who she is today because she lets such trivial things go.
"I want to create a space for my fans where they can feel free, and they can celebrate. So I like to create this atmosphere for my fans where they feel like they have a freak in me to hang out with and they don’t feel alone," she explained.
Gigi Hadid
In Gigi Hadid's case, her walk is what made her the most insecure about herself. And that's important when you're a model because the way you walk is part of how you present yourself, and it becomes a really important piece of showing off fashion. But she said that her insecurities helped her to become a better person in her modeling. "When you start working, you better be the most hardworking, nicest person in the room," she said.
"Because if you're not, then there's always going to be someone prettier, nicer, and more hardworking." That's a really interesting way to look at it. If you don't do it well, someone will always do it better.
Mila Kunis
As someone who has been on "Maxim's Hot List" quite a few times, it's pretty objective at this point to say that Mila Kunis is an attractive individual. The thing is, she doesn't seem to think so. She doesn't think she's attractive at all, as a matter of fact. I appreciate the attention but I don’t think of myself as particularly attractive at all. I also don’t have that naturally... sensuous way of behaving that some women have," she said.
But that's part of her charm, and we don't think that she isn't attractive. She added, "I do have a pretty sharp sense of humor, though, and I think that has helped me," We definitely agree on that one.
Benedict Cumberbatch
It's not just women who have insecurities. In fact, many men (probably the same amount, even) have as many or more insecurities as the average woman. Unfortunately, not all men are so open about what they think of themselves. And for Benedict Cumberbatch, some of those things may have to do with his resemblance to certain animated characters. "I’ve been likened to Sid the sloth from Ice Age," the actor said.
We may kind of see the resemblance, but only if you tae Sid and clean hm up a bit and make him look less dopey. What we're trying to say is that Cumberbatch is an attractive fellow!
Benedict Cumberbatch Continued
But for Benedict Cumberbatch, his resemblance to Sid from "Ice Age" is the least of his worries, as it seems being considered attractive may also be a new thing for him. "I look in a mirror and I see all the faults I’ve lived with for 35 years and yet people go kind of nuts for certain things about me. It’s not me being humble. I just think it’s weird".
But that's the thing: we've all looked in a mirror once. We all, as people, look in the mirror and wonder who we're looking at, at some point or another. It's accepting ourselves that's important.
Jessica Biel
For Jessica Biel, her natural looks are not always the most impressive for her. Some people want to be skinnier, while others want to be bigger. For Jessica, it wasn't so much these things as it was wanting a different pair of legs, though it didn't make it any easier. "If I gain any weight it's always right around my hips, so that area sometimes bugs me, and I wish my legs were longer," she said.
Having longer legs would definitely offset this problem a little bit. It's just too bad we can't change these things about our bodies. But these aren't the only things she has been said to be insecure about.
Jessica Biel Continued
While there isn't really much she can do about her legs, there are some other problems she has that may be more tolerable. Although, if you're going to ask us the solution, we wouldn't really know how to fix it ourselves. She also struggles with acne, and that's not something so easy to treat. "I get pimples on my face because I wear so much makeup and work out a lot, so I sweat," she said.
These are both things that make acne worse, and it's not exactly easy to stop doing those things. Maybe switching the brand and how she cleans up after a workout can help relieve the symptoms.
Michelle Pfeiffer
Michelle Pfeiffer is a beautiful woman, there's no denying that. She's played many fantastic roles, and one of them, her portrayal as Catwoman, pretty much cements the notion that she is a woman of beauty. Despite that, there is still something about herself that she just can't seem to get over: her lips. "It’s the way that my mouth sort of curls up, or my nose tilts up. I should have played Howard the Duck," she said.
We think we get what she's talking about, but we don't think it's all that drastic. Still, lips can be a pretty sensitive area for people since the shape can't really be changed, only the size.
Jon Hamm
Benedict Cumberbatch doesn't seem to be the only one who is new to being considered attractive. For Jon Hamm, who is perhaps most famous for his role in "Mad Men", he doesn't really understand why his fans have come to think of him as anything but handsome. "I'm not Brad Pitt, for God's sake," he said in an interview with "The Sydney Morning Herald". Seems he looks up to Brad Pitt in that regard.
To be fair, who wouldn't? He is a pretty attractive guy. But if that's setting the bar low, you'll never find yourself attractive. You don't have to be as good-looking as him to be good-looking. It's actually not that hard at all.
Ed Sheeran
Speaking of it not being hard to be attractive, someone like Ed Sheeran also has to realize that. He, too, doesn't really consider himself to be all that attractive. "I find the whole concept of women screaming at me so odd. It's very flattering, but I don't think I will ever consider myself to be a sex symbol. If you speak to most women, they want to take me home and mother me rather than take me to bed. I just have that impression," the singer said.
And while we admit that he does have a bit of a cuteness factor in the way of being "a sex symbol", those are the kinds of things that can also make you attractive outside of physical looks. The same goes for singing and being funny (wink wink, nudge nudge).
Ed Sheeran Continued
But that's not the only thing that the singer has struggled with in the past. How he feels about himself as an artist is also pretty noteworthy. He begins by saying, "There's enough fat people in the industry and there's enough skinny people in the industry and there's enough ginger people in the industry". But it's what he says next that can be a real inspiration to those who have the same thoughts.
"There's enough of everyone in the industry, and usually the ones that aren't attractive are the ones that do the best." Bottom line, if you don't think you're special enough, then you probably just need to keep reaching out.
Cara Delevingne
You would think that being a drop-dead gorgeous model would make you feel good about yourself since there are plenty of people who would kill to be a model. Not so for Cara Delevingne. For her, modelling took a big toll on her mental health and her love for her body. She explained, "It is a mental thing as well because if you hate yourself and your body and the way you look, it just gets worse and worse".
She added, "I kind of forgot how young I was. I felt so old". We have to remember that the models who do everything to look good in a picture don't necessarily do enough to help themselves feel as good on the inside,
Billie Eilish
Billie Eilish seems to exude confidence when you listen to some of her songs, but that may not have always been the case. "I just hated my body. I would have done anything to be in a different one," she said to Vogue. I really wanted to be a model, really bad, and I was chubby and short. I developed really early. I had boobs at nine. I got my period at 11."
"So my body was going faster than my brain. It’s funny, because when you’re a little kid, you don’t think of your body at all. And all of a sudden, you look down and you’re, like, whoa. What can I do to make this go away?"
Emma Chamberlain
Being unhappy with your body doesn't always mean finding a meaningless "flaw" and fixating on it. Sometimes, the struggle comes from within and your environment. In an interview with Cosmopolitan, the YouTube star opened up about her insecurities: "I just think that growing up on social media gave me eating issues as a kid. I literally have struggled with that my whole life. Almost every person I’ve met has had some form of an eating disorder".
"I’ve been fully not at a healthy weight and I thought I was obese multiple times. It’s awful. My whole family was telling me I looked terrible. They were like, ‘You look like you’re dying.’"
Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato also used to have some insecurities of her own, but it seems, at least, like she's gotten over a big part of them. In a post on Instagram, she posed for a picture showing off exactly what gave her some emotional troubles. But she also wrote in the caption how over the fear she was. An excerpt from the post: "This is my biggest fear. A photo of me in a bikini unedited. And guess what, it’s CELLULITE!!!!"
We love that pun and that she's reclaiming her beauty. She continued the post by saying, "I’m just literally sooooo tired of being ashamed of my body, editing it (yes the other bikini pics were edited — and I hate that I did that but it’s the truth)".
Addison Rae
But Demi Lovato isn't the only one making strides to better her self-esteem. Addison Rae, one of TikTok's most famous content creators, said this about her experience on the platform: "i’ve seen 5-10 tweets & tiktoks today talking negatively about my body and weight.. it makes me feel insecure, but luckily i’m looking at it in a different light. i’ve been very motivated to start eating better and working out everyday to become the healthiest version of myself!"
We love it when our role models are able to take the criticism and roll with it. That's not to say we should be criticizing them, we just think that their strength in front of all the haters really brings hope to everyone else.
