Bringing to the stage Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen, Raddix and Seven! Some people just have to make the most original choices, and such is the case with celebrity baby names. And while it’s practically common knowledge that celebrities give their offsprings some unusual names, these actors, singers, models and so on have really taken it up a notch
1. X Æ A-Xii
We probably won’t be able to top this one, but still, let’s start with a bang. May 2020 saw musician Grimes and and business magnate Elon Musk welcome their first child. We wouldn’t expect a pair of an experimental artist and a fearless businessman to give their baby a boring name, but still, it was quite a shock to discovered they chose to name him X Æ A-Xii. (Musk explained that it’s pronounced “X-Ash”.)
Grimes posted a breakdown of what each character means: X stands for the "unknown variable," Æ stands for Grimes' "elven spelling of Ai," and A-12 stands for a type of CIA aircraft known internally as Archangel: “No weapons, no defences, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent.”
2. Daisy Dove Bloom
Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom welcomed their first child together in August of 2020, and named her Daisy Dove Bloom. It’s not each particular name but their combination that’s interesting (and beautiful.)
The couple are Goodwill Ambassadors for UNICEF, and they shared the news via organization's social media accounts, also setting up a donation page to UNICEF to celebrate Daisy Dove’s arrival.
3. Sir Carter
Imagine being 3 and being called Sir! That's the situation for the brother of Blue Ivy and the twin brother of Rumi, children of Beyoncé and Jay Z.
The latter explained: "Sir was like, man, come out the gate. He carries himself like that. He just came out, like Sir”. Rumi, by the way, is named after the Sufi poet of the same name.
4. Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran
Yep, that's the name of the daughter of Ed Sheeran and his wife Cherry Seaborn. Lyra is a constellation that represents the lyre, a harped instrument. And for the Antarctica, Sheeran took place in the One Earth charity single to raise awareness of climate change, so maybe that’s a reference.
Plus, place names are becoming a trend, and Antarctica is a particularly beautiful one.
5. Kulture Kiari
Cardi B and Offset are two of the best rappers out there, and we wouldn’t expect them to give their daughter a boring name.
Their 2-year-old is named Kulture, and she already has an instagram account boasting 1.3 million followers. "On my Instagram making sure my mommy don’t post nothing embarrassing on my page," reads one caption.
6. Apple Martin
Apple is now sixteen and we got used to her name, but back in 2004 is was scandalous. Daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin makes her mother proud.
in a recent interview to E! news, Paltrow said: “When I see my daughter with her friends, they are so empowered. They have - and I mean this word in the best possible way - they have a sense of entitlement that's beautiful. It's not spoiled.”
7. Bear Payne
That's the name singers Cheryl Tweedy and Liam Payne chose for their son (full name: Bear Grey Payne, Daddy’s nickname: Cub.)
The couple keep him away from the spotlight, as his father told the Evening Standard in March 2018: “Rather than being pictured and being put in places, I wanna give him the chance. If I take it away from him now, he never has the chance to go back.”
8. Gravity Blue Smith
Models-turned-parents Lucky Blue Smith and Stormi Bree have unusual names themselves, so you could say it's a matter of tradition.
We actually think Gravity is a beautiful name, and would love to see it grow in popularity.
9. Harlow Winter, Kate Madden and Sparrow James Midnight Madden
So much to work with here! Those are the kids of musician and Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden and model Nicole Richie, an eccentric couple with eccentric choices.
We wonder if the Kate and James are actually in use, or they’re there just to please the grandparents.
10. Raddix Madden
Wait, we’re not done here with Good Charlotte: the band’s guitarist Benji Madden and actress Cameron Diaz have a baby boy that's only 10 months old, but is sure to stand out )even though he can’t even stand yet.)
Well, you can’t not stand out with a name like Raddix Madden!
11. Egypt and Genesis Keys
Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz have two kids: Egypt (9) and Genesis (5). Genesis is a word of Greek origin meaning “beginning” or “birth”, and Egypt is, well, a country.
Their full names, by the way, are Egypt Daoud Dean and Genesis Ali Dean.
12. Golden Cannon
Comedian Nick Cannon and ex girlfriend and model Brittany Bell have a son named Golden Cannon, and nicknamed Sagon.
It’s the third child for Cannon, who has twins called Moroccan and Monroe from his ex-wife, pop superstar Mariah Carey.
13. Zuma Nesta Rock
Gwen Stefani and former Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale have not disclosed the origin of their son's name, but the internet has a theory.
Zuma - named after Zuma Beach in Malibu, where Rossdale reportedly had a moment of clarity that set him on the road to becoming a musician. Nesta - the given name of Bob Marley, an inspiration for Stefani's reggae-inflected band. And rock - well, you figured it out.
14. Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen
It wasn't easy to pick just one exquisite name of a Frank Zappa descendant: Moon Unit, Dweezil and Ahmet Emuukha Rodan give a good fight. But Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen still wins.
Her father explained he named her Diva "because of the loud quality of her voice. She's audible at 300 yards". Diva is now 41, but age is irrelevant when your name is Diva.
15. Birdie Leigh
Busy Philipps and husband Marc Silverstein have two daughters with unusual names: Birdie Leigh and Cricket Pearl. Birdie is named after Lady Bird Johnson, the former first lady. Cricket Pearl was a name made up by her dad.
Philipps defended her and her husband’s choices, tweeting: "It's weird people think my kids will be in therapy because of their names. Guys, my kids will be therapy for LOTS of reasons, I'm sure."
16. Audio Science Clayton
Actress Shannyn Sossamon and children's book author Dallas Clayton gave their son a name that is granted ti gain a lot of attention.
Sossamon explained: “We wanted a word, not a name, so my boyfriend read through the dictionary three or four times and then we named our boy Audio Science.”
17. India Hemsworth
Remember reading the place names are becoming a trend? Chris Hemsworth's 8-year-old daughter is also a part of it. He revealed that his wife Elsa Pataky “spent a lot of time in India, and that was where the name originally came from.”
Hemsworth himself visited India in 2018, shooting the Netflix thriller Dhaka, and had a very positive experience, which probably made him even happier with his and his wife’s choice.
18. Stormi Jenner
According to Kylie Jenner, she and her daughter’s Dad, rapper Travis Scott, both think they own the credit for her peculiar name. She said: "I really don’t know how we thought of Storm. Her dad insisted it was him, but I feel like it was me. And that kind of just stuck with us. (…) and then I didn’t really like just Storm - I didn’t feel like that was her name. So I named her Stormi."
And at any rate, just look at that cuddly thing! You can call her whatever you want and she'd still be adorable (and incredibly wealthy.)
19. True Whitaker
Oscar-winning actor Forest Whitaker has four daughters, all of them have beautiful and rare names: Autumn, Sonnet, Ocean and True.
He explained: “I want them to kind of touch their destiny by their names. Autumn is sort of flighty, and Sonnet is much more of an artist…and True was very strong, and Ocean just has a big heart. He wants to be a veterinarian…He's been talking about it for years.”
20. Fuchsia Sumner
Actress Fuchsia Sumner is the daughter of Sting and Frances Tomelty, who chose an unusual colour name for her.
But hey, if Scarlet is legit, why shouldn’t Fuchsia be?
21. Bluebell Madonna Halliwell
Spice Girl Geri Halliwell chose a very interesting name for her daughter. "As I walked around the park in the last few weeks of pregnancy, I seemed to see bluebells everywhere”, she shared. “Scarlett was a name I loved, as Scarlett O'Hara was my fictional heroine. I seemed to recall she had a daughter who was called Blue. I thought that was cute - and Bluebell was even cuter."
"There's a good reason I picked Madonna as a middle name, too", Halliwell explained. "As she came out of my tummy, Bluebell had both arms wide in the air as if announcing, 'Hi, I'm here.' "She was screaming her head off, as though she was shouting, 'Hello Wembley!'. No one else has that name, apart from the Virgin Madonna and the singer, who I love.”
22. Ireland Baldwin
Yes, we’re not done here with the place names! Ireland Baldwin is a model, and the daughter of accoladed actors Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger.
In 2012 a fan asked Baldwin on twitter why he chose the name, and he responded: “Bc she’s beautiful but can’t manage her finances”. LOL!
23. Seraphina Affleck
Actually, the full name is Seraphina Rose Elizabeth Affleck, and she is the daughter of actors Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck.
. Her name comes from the Seraphim, the high order of six-winged angels in Jewish tradition. The name is in step with the Isabellas and Gabriellas so popular today, yet is far more distinctive.
24. Moxie CrimeFighter Jillette
No, it’s no a new Disney show, it’s the daughter of American magician Penn Jillette and his wife Emily. In a 2006 New York Times the father explained: “Moxie is a name that was created by an American for the first national soft drink and then went on to mean chutzpah, and that's nice.”
He also defended the unusual names in general, saying: “It's only the losers named Dave that think having an unusual name is bad, and who cares what they think. They're named Dave”. We apologise for those of you named Dave, we still think you’re awesome.
25. Seven Sirius Benjamin
Singer Erykah Badu doesn't like normal names - they just don't match her style. That's why she named her children Puma Sabti, Seven Sirius and Mars Merkaba.
Our personal favourite is seven - if place names are the trend right now, we bet number names are going to be the trend of the future.
26. Bronx Mowgli Wentz
Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy were married for only a short time, but gave their son a name you can’t forget: Bronx Mowgli. Mowgli is a reference to "The Jungle Book", of course, which Wentz said was "something that me and Ashlee bonded over."
As for the Bronx, he said: "I feel weird because all these people have all these ideas on what it means ... It's kind of cool to leave the narrative what it is. I don't think anybody knows what the real story is of why or how.”
27. Rosalind Arusha Arkadina Altalune Florence Thurman-Busson
That’s quite a long name for an 8-year-old, but that's what her parents Uma Thurman and her then-husband Arpad Busson chose for her.
Thankfully, this nouthful of a name has a shorter version and Rosalind's freinds and family simply call her Luna.
28. Tu Morrow
Actor Rob Morrow couldn’t resist the temptation, you see. The kid must be having “Annie” sung at her every single day of her life.
Morrow is a veteran TV actor, having appeared in tons of shows, such as Northern Exposure, American Crime Story and Billions.
29. Jermajesty Jackson
Singer Jermaine Jackson has 9 children (!), including Jeremy, Autumn, Jaafar, Donte, Dawn, Jermaine, Jaimy and Jourdynn. Our favorite, though, must be Jermajesty.
The father offered us a glimpse into his mind: "Well, I like the letter J. Both my first name and my last name start with it. So that's nice. Also, my three previous kids - Jeremy, Jourdynn and Jaafar - obviously have done well by it. But I want something different, a name the majesty of which will both make my other kids feel inferior and guarantee that no one will be able to say it without laughing. The letter J. Majesty. Majestic ... Oh, oh, I got it”.
30. Denim Braxton Lewis
Toni Braxton and her then-husband, Keri Lewis, really liked jeans. They brought two sons: Diezel and Denim.
She explained: "My son Denim, it was supposed to be spelled D-e-n-h-a-m, like Oldham, but when we were in the hospital, in Atlanta, the nurse said 'how's little baby Den-ham?' So we started spelling it like the jean. I changed it to the jean. Some people say it's French, and some people say it's English.”
31. Sno FilmOn Dot Com
When rapper Chief Keef released his double album “Bang 3”, he naturally wanted to promote it - and figured there isn’t a better way to do it than to give his newborn son the name of his record label, FilmOn.Com, which is owned by the Greek billionaire Alki David.
Actually, the label was the one who issued the official statement: “Alki David has announced that Chief Keef and his newest baby mama have agreed to name the newborn Sno FilmOn Dot Com Cozart in order to promote the release of Sosa’s double album Bang 3 with FilmOn Music and MondoTunes on September 18”. Interesting way to announce your newborn baby.
32. Coco Arquette
The name Coco was a compromise between mother Courteney Cox and father David Arquette. Cox wanted to pass her name to her daughter, as her mom is Courteney Cox and so is she.
Arquette, however, is half Jewish, and it is against Jewish tradition to name a child after a living person. So the name came from the nickname Courteney's friends had for her mother while Courteney was growing up.
33. Kal-El Cage
Nicolas Cage and his now ex-wife Alice went for a name that is, umm, super: Kal-El. For those of you who are not DC fans, this is the birth name of Superman, given to the super-hero all the way back at his home planet of Krypton.
Cage, an avid comics collector, was supposed to play the man of steel in a cinematic adaptation that had Superman facing off a giant spider from outer space. So, in other words, we're happy he kept the name - and pretty much nothing else.
